Dentistry/ Oral Maxillofacial Surgery/ Orthodontics

Dentistry also referred to as Dental and Oral Medicine deals with diagnosis, prevention as well as treatment of various conditions of the oral cavity. This includes diseases and disorders of the teeth and their supporting, nearby structures or tissues such as the head, tongue, salivary glands, and particularly the maxillofacial region. Although primarily associated with diseases of the teeth and gums, specialty branches such as Cosmetic Dentistry can also help improve dental aesthetics, i.e., proper positioning, shape, sizing, color, and alignment of teeth, as well as other oral features.

Usually, a general practice dentist serves as the primary dental health care provider, providing regular checkups and treatments to ensure the optimal oral and dental health of patients. They also perform root canals, fillings, veneers, bridges, crowing and educate patients on teeth/gum care and dietary choices that can impact their oral health. These types of dentists typically work with a collaborative dental team comprising dental assistants/associates, hygienists, therapists and technicians.

Another specialty/subspecialty of dentistry including endodontists, orthodontics, oral pathology, pediatric dentistry, periodontics, prosthodontists, as well as oral and maxillofacial surgery and radiology also help to serve a diverse range of patient dental needs.

Dental Implants
Dental Implants have quickly become the recommended dental treatment for supporting or replacing missing teeth. A Dental Implant serves an artificial root that is surgically inserted in the jawbone of patients with one or more missing teeth. The procedure is equally effective when applied on a smaller scale to replace a missing tooth with a single implant, or on a broader scale using a bridge in place of multiple missing teeth. In extreme cases, complete or partial dentures are also used to replace all or only upper/lower missing teeth.

Dental Whitening
Tooth Whitening is an effective way of lightening the discoloration and removing stains from your teeth without damaging the tooth enamel. The dental team will spread a gel or install a rubber shield to protect the gums, followed by the application of dental bleach the teeth using a dental tray for a fixed amount of time. As the active ingredients in the bleach break down, it lightens the existing shade of the teeth.

Oral Surgery
The dental specialty of Oral surgery includes procedures ranging from simple extraction, surgical extraction and removal of wisdom tooth, to complex surgical procedures involving Neurectomies and maxilla-facial trauma.

Aesthetic Dentistry
The field of Aesthetic Dentistry focuses on improving the appearance of your teeth. It focuses on the utilization of cosmetic white fillings and veneers (a very thin-layered, custom-made shell of tooth covering material) to improve the aesthetics of your smile.

Restorative Dentistry
Restorative dentistry is the field of conservative dentistry, specializing in the replacement of missing and filling of cavities.

Smile Makeover
Smile Makeover is the process of improving the appearance of the smile through a combination of cosmetic procedures such as dental veneers, dental implants, teeth whitening, and composite bonding to fix chipped/broken teeth. Shifa International Hospital takes great pride in being the first dental clinic that also offers lingual braces that are fitted behind the teeth to offer a subtler appearance.

Crowns and Bridges
Unlike dentures, crowns and bridges are fixed prosthetics that are bonded to existing implants or teeth to replace or provide support in place of missing teeth.

Pediatric Dentistry
Paedodontics specialize in providing a variety of dental treatments with a gentle approach to accommodate the temperaments and extra care needs of children of all age groups. The variety of services includes filling of milk teeth and first permanent molar, temporary crowing, Pulpotomy (i.e. baby root canal) and Pulpectomy.

Root Canal Treatment
Root Canal is a dental procedure used to treat inflammation or infection at the root of the tooth. An Endodontist will usually provide treatment by removing the little fibers inside the tooth, cleaning, disinfecting as well as shaping the root canal, and sealing it off to prevent further infection.

Orthodontics
Orthodontics focuses on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of dental and facial irregularities by using a variety of appliances to improve the alignment of the teeth and jaw. Most facilities involve functional orthopedic jaw appliances and removable or fixed orthodontic appliances.
